DSL Setup for Windows 9x, ME, & XP via DHCP

Please note that this is the recommended setup for most client workstation. Be sure that you have installed a Network Interface Card (NIC) and it's working.

  • Click on the "Start" Button.
  • Click on "Settings".
  • Click on "Control Panel".
  • Double click on the "Network" icon and you will see the following screen:

Please note that TCP/IP is installed by default. If is not, click on "Add", select "Protocol" and click "Add" again. Ten select "Microsoft" and "Tcp/ip".

Configure TCP/IP

  • Click on "TCP/IP Protocol" and the click on "Properties". The following screen will appear:

  • Select "Obtain IP address automatically"
  • Click on the "DNS Configuration" tab and the following screen will appear:

  • Select "Disable DNS".
  • Click on the "Gateway" tab and the following screeen will appear:

  • Remove any gateways listed under "Installed Gateways".
  • Click the "OK" button at the bottom of the window. This will take you to the "Network Control Panel". Be prepared to insert your Windows Operating System CD-Rom if prompted.
  • You will then be asked to reboot your computer. Click "Yes" and you computer will restart.

You are done configuring DSL. Once your computer has restarted, you are ready to run the browser of your choice - Internet Explorer, Netscape, Eudora, etc.
